ST Engineering revealed a roadmap for launching a constellation of four synthetic aperture radar (SAR) Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites on Monday, which it says will provide high-resolution Earth observation coverage around the equator. Earlier, a Singaporean government official said the city-state plans to launch its own space agency.
In a Feb. 2 announcement, the Singapore-based company said it plans to launch the first satellite of its NeuSAR-2 constellation in 2027, and the remaining four would be in orbit by 2030. ST Engineering also announced plans to launch NEBULA, “Singapore’s first pathfinder demonstrator for advanced inter-satellite laser communications,” in the second half of 2026.
“When fully operational in near equatorial Low Earth Orbit, the NeuSAR-2 Constellation will provide high-revisit coverage across the equatorial region, delivering high-resolution imaging to support missions such as environmental monitoring and disaster response planning,” the company said in a release.
ST Engineering revealed its roadmap on Monday at the Singapore Airshow’s Space Summit. Low Jin Phang, ST Engineering’s chief operating officer for Defense & Public Security and president for Digital Systems, said the satellite systems would leverage artificial intelligence to serve customers worldwide.
ST Engineering currently owns co-owns three Earth observation satellites with the Singaporean government, Singapore’s Minister-in-charge of Energy and Science & Technology Tan See Leng said in an address at the Space Summit on Monday. The city-state will launch the NeuSAR-2 constellation in collaboration with the company, he said.
In his speech, he also announced plans to launch Singapore’s first space agency, the National Space Agency of Singapore, on April 1.
“We want to harness the full potential of space technologies to strengthen Singapore’s position as a global hub – not just as consumers of space services, but as credible contributors to the global space ecosystem, delivering impactful innovations and solutions to the world,” Leng said.
